Once upon a time, the only people who had braces were teenagers. However, as time has gone on, more adults have decided that they would like to straighten their teeth. It is never too late to improve your smile, and if you would like to make some adjustments, our dentist, Dr. Kyle M. Triggs would love to sit down and talk with you about your options. There are some things that adults need to consider that don’t factor into braces for children and teens.

As an adult, the bones in your jaw have stopped growing and have hardened. Because of that, you may have to wear your braces longer since it will take your teeth more time to realign themselves. You may have had one or more of your teeth extracted over the years and the spaces they left behind may not be suitable places for your teeth. Adults may suffer from gingivitis, and unlike younger people, adults may not have enough jawbone between their teeth to permit adequate blood supply. When you meet with the doctor, he will be able to determine if you have any conditions that need to be considered.

Remember, braces are not the only way to straighten and care for your teeth. But, if you are considering getting braces and live in the Anchorage, Alaska area, call Alaska Dental Associates for an appointment at 907-562-2284. We look forward to meeting you and helping you improve your smile!
