The holiday season is a fun and exciting time, but it’s also a time to take good care of your smile. Now, our dental team knows the holidays haven’t quite arrived, but we want to help you prepare for them before the busy times hit. That way you can be ready without having to worry about the condition of your smile. So, our dentist, Dr. Kyle M. Triggs, would like to share some tips on how to maintain strong teeth and gums during holiday parties.
First, stick to the basics: oral hygiene. Leading up to the holiday parties, it’s important to brush twice a day, floss once a day, and rinse daily. It’s also important to visit our office if you’re due for your six-month checkups. Brushing, flossing, rinsing, and visiting your dentist can all clean and strengthen your teeth, preparing them for the holiday festivities.
Second, choose the healthy holiday snacks. Those snacks include things like apples, carrots, celery, and cheese. These snacks can help your teeth and also keep dental issues at bay. So, please avoid the sugary snacks as much as possible.
Third, keep your smile in mind when selecting your party beverage. As you may already know, sugary beverages can promote tooth decay, so it’s best to avoid those. However, other drinks can stain and erode your tooth enamel. Those beverages include coffee, black tea, wine, and soda. So, if possible, stick to drinking water.
