Fluoride Treatment to Remineralize Your Teeth
Fluoride treatments have one purpose: to strengthen your teeth and help them to resist decay.
In the course of a day, you eat food and drink liquids. Sugars and acids that have not been brushed or flossed away during your regular dental routine accumulate bacteria, which attack the enamel layer of your teeth. A fluoride treatment can protect them from that.
Fluoride helps to bring the minerals back to your enamel, while preventing cavities and tooth decay. Children need this especially as their teeth come in during their growing years. Fluoride helps them develop strong and healthy teeth.
If a fluoride treatment is what you need, Alaska Dental Associates is here to help. Dr. Kyle Triggs and our hygienists are experts when it comes to applying the treatment properly, to maximize its effectiveness.
What is the Purpose of Fluoride Treatment?
Fluoride puts minerals back into your tooth enamel that bacteria from sugars and acids can take away, providing protection from tooth decay and strengthening your teeth.
You can get some fluoride through regular brushing with toothpaste made with fluoride. If your dental health routine has slipped, your teeth will get less fluoride and may be more prone to decay. In that case, we recommend working hard to get that routine back on track, in addition to a fluoride treatment. Aside from fluoridated water and tea and the toothpaste you use, you are not likely to get fluoride from any other source.
Our dentist usually administers fluoride treatments during a patient’s regular dental checkup, which we recommend if you are considering the treatment. If your teeth are prone to decay, a fluoride treatment may be recommended in addition to your normal checkup.
